Director, Performer, Rhetoric Instructor

Whether it be acting, directing, performance art or lessons in rhetoric, speech is always at the center of my professional interest. In my artistic work, I focus on speech patterns that transcend familiar modes of speaking, I call this speechART. Through instruction in rhetoric, I help people in their workaday use of language.
My theater career encompasses 40 years and began in Vienna where I studied drama at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar and became an ensemble member at renowned theaters such as the Burgtheater, the Volkstheater and the Theater in der Josefstadt, all in Vienna ; later too at the Freie Volksbühne in Berlin. After some years in the profession, I went to the US where I became an advanced student of the Russian acting coach and director George Shdanoff. There I completed my studies in acting and directing, gaining intensive knowledge of Konstantin Stanislavsky's and Michael Chekov's methods which have deeply influenced my artistic practice to the present.
As of 2006, I decided to work as an independent performance artist, concentrating increasingly on my key interest: exploring speech techniques from all over the world. Since 2016 my focus has also turned theoretical, and I have been presenting my ideas in lecture performances. In short – I keep at it: theater is a must. You will find some insights into my positions as an artist on this homepage.
In 2016 I stumbled onto the ancient discipline of Rhetoric. As a result of a guest lecture »Rhetoric in Resistance« and an accompanying workshop that I held at a rhetoric conference at the University of Salzburg, I was offered a teaching position revolving around lectures, presentations and ad lib speech. To sum up: speech technique has a societal function! Recently, I have begun offering my methods to a wider sphere of interested people. Feel free to discover more about these matters on the Rhetoric Pages of this website.
